Candy Cane Lane got its start in 1968 when a few families decided to deck their halls with holiday decorations. These were primarily made out of hand-painted wood embellishments, which were extremely popular at the time of creation. In the next year, they repeated the process, and as of 2018, the event has been held annually for 50 years.

Food was donated to the Edmonton Food Bank by Candy Cane Lane in the amount of 12 trucks in 2017.
